Basset

Origin and History of the Basset

It was created by interbreeding between the white St. Hubert, the Braque Italian white fawn and Great griffin. Known also as the King's white dog, it is used by the kings of France and his courtiers in the hunts over. In the case of the Petit Basset crosses are made to reduce its size.

Physical Characteristics

It's a small dog, agile and vigorous with a slightly elongated body. It has an elongated skull and not very wide but quite rounded. Her nose is much shorter of the Basset larger, less elongated and square in the end.

The nose is black and thick. It is well developed.

The ears are folded not too long, and covered with long hair, and located in alignment of the eye. The eyes are large and intelligent expression, without that we can see the white of the eye. The hairs that cover the upper eyelid and falling in front should not obstruct vision. The tail carried high, is quite thick at the base and reduces gradually towards the tip

Character of the Basset

It is a brave and intelligent dog. Affectionate and obedient, he gets upset easily and is not an ideal companion for young children.

He is happy and very loyal to those around him.
